Exploring Memory, Nature, and the Poetics of Being
Samir Mohanty, a multidisciplinary artist, earned his M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Hyderabad in 2012, following his B.F.A. from Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar in 2009. His practice is rooted in memory and longing—an evocative engagement with what is lost, fading, or quietly enduring. Through his work, Samir creates a dialogue between the past and the present, inviting viewers into a space of reflection, existential inquiry, and emotional resonance.
At the heart of his visual language lies nature—not merely as a motif, but as an active protagonist. His works often explore the profound interconnectedness between the human body and the natural world, presenting this relationship as both fragile and resilient. For Samir, the materials he uses are not passive tools but integral voices in the narrative. He often incorporates organic, living elements sourced directly from nature, blurring the boundaries between artwork and environment, object and essence.
Color plays a vital role in his compositions—vibrant, emotive hues are not just visual choices but symbolic expressions of joy, vitality, and inner harmony. They echo the freshness and psychological balm found in nature, offering a counterpoint to modern detachment and dislocation.
Samir's work draws from indigenous traditions and spiritual philosophies, yet remains deeply contemporary in its relevance. His explorations span across painting, installation, and sculpture—always experimental, always grounded in a pursuit of truth. Whether he is recalling childhood memories, responding to ecological concerns, or delving into the symbiosis of science and spirituality, his art remains a soulful homage to roots, ritual, and regeneration.
In Samir Mohanty’s world, art is not a finished product but a living process—one that celebrates growth, decay, continuity, and the eternal dance between man and nature.
